Youth from throughout Tulare County will have a number of opportunities this summer to participate in safe, late-night recreation activities through the Summer Night Lights program.

From dances and picnics in Allensworth to movies and sports activities in Porterville, Summer Night Lights aims to curb violence and other negative activity by keeping selected parks and recreational facilities open during the summer months. The unincorporated community of Cutler-Orosi will kick off the 2012 Summer Night Lights Program from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday at Ledbetter Park.

The program was initiated in 2011 with three cities participating. This year, Summer Night Lights will take place in nine different sites in Tulare County. The communities include Alpaugh, Allensworth, Cutler-Orosi, Dinuba, Farmersville, Porterville, Richgrove, Tulare, and Visalia.

Tulare County Supervisor Phil Cox said that he is pleased that communities around the county see the value in providing positive activities for youth.

“The Board of Supervisors is pleased to partner with all agencies to reduce crimes committed by and against youth during the summer months,” Supervisor Cox said.
