Since 2007, Step Up has purposefully strived to address the complex issues that affect today’s youth within the communities of Tulare County. It has been a true partnership, with community members working alongside law enforcement, schools, businesses, community organizations and faith-based groups to forge a coalition approach to provide youth opportunities, activities, and support.
There has been tremendous success in the implementation of Step Up’s programs. In 2015 alone, over 52,000 youth and their families have participated in Step Up programming which consists of community resource events, youth activities grants, Youth Challenge (service learning grant program), #LEAD (youth leadership and mentoring program), LOOP bus (a bus service which helps connect youth to activities), the Rise Above Project (drug prevention program directed toward 6th grade students - similar to Every 15 minutes) and Summer Night Lights (community events held throughout the summer months). LOOP, Challenge and #LEAD programs have received recognition by the California State Association of Counties as being innovative and exemplary programs.
