Urban Art Tour
Through a partnership with the Visalia Art’s Consortium and the Urbanist’s Collective, Step Up has collaborated to sponsor an urban art competition. The mission: showing that using a spray paint can on canvas, instead of neighborhood walls and fences, can be works of art.
What is Urban Art?
Urban art is a style of art that relates to cities and city life often done by artists who live or have a passion for city life. In that way urban art combines street art and graffiti and is often used to summarize all visual art forms arising in urban areas, being inspired by urban architecture or urban life.
Urban Art Competition
Artists from the central valley and from all parts of California participate each year in the competition to create works of art. A different non-profit is selected each year and is the inspiration for the theme. Each artist is given aerosol paint cans and a 4’ X 3’ canvass to create their masterpiece which must be completed in no more than 5 hours. A winner is selected based on the piece of art that best demonstrates the work of the selected non-profit.
Urban Art Tour
Through a collaboration with libraries throughout Tulare County, the art makes it’s way into both cities and unincorporated communities. The 2014 art tour plans to make it’s appearance in the following communities from January through April: Visalia, Dinuba, Ivanhoe, Woodlake, Exeter, Lindsay, Strathmore, Porterville, Earlimart, Pixley, Tipton, and Tulare.
